"Man is whole when he is in tune with winds, the stars, and the hills as well as with his neighbors.
Being in tune with the community is part of the secret.
Being in tune with the universe is the entire secret.
Man's greatest mission is to preserve life, not to destroy it."

-- William O. Douglas

News:

  • PARC is in the process of being re-organized under new leadership. Watch for developments.

  • Read the latest newsletter (pdf).

  • Watch our Pleasanton Oak Grove/Kottinger Ridge video:

  • Watch other PARC YouTube videos.

Threats:

  • Uncontrolled suburban, rural, and leapfrog development caused by...
    • uncoordinated and irrational planning
    • irresponsible, permissive zoning, zone changes, and variances
    • counties in competition with cities
    • sacrificing agricultural land to maximize tax revenue
  • Increased taxes, rates, and fees to subsidize costly, disruptive extensions of water and sewer service for new development
  • Irreversible damage to environmental resources, potential parkland, wildlife habitat, and oak woodlands
  • Uncontrolled development leading to erosion of stream banks

Goals:

  • Study alternatives to the Oak Grove proposal, such as a Eastern Pleasanton Ridgelands park.
  • Establish a continuous Ridgelands Preserve in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara counties
  • Link state and regional parks with hiking and equestrian trails
  • Stimulate urban revitalization, efficient use of resources and of existing infrastructure
  • Support Alameda County's Measure D ("Urban Growth Boundary") passed in November, 2000.

Beautiful hills can be paved for the profit of a few, or saved for parkland for all.

How You Can Help:

  • Work with all levels of government to protect and to acquire ridgeland areas
  • Pursue legal action to uphold the law
  • Continue to implement the Bay Ridge Trail (panoramic map)

PARC is a non-profit organization formed in 1972 by citizens of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. PARC has vigorously
advocated local, state, and federal measures to preserve the Ridgelands and has worked to inform the public on these issues.
